Misi Pasta, Williamsburg
Lunch at Misi Pasta
I tried Misi Pasta for the first time this weekend alongside my best friend, Bo, who was also making her first visit.
The first thing worth mentioning is the space itself. From the moment you walk in, you're transported into a fresh pasta shop that feels more Roman than Brooklyn. To the left, a case of freshly made pasta is available for purchase. To the right, shelves are lined with imported canned and bottled goods that invite you to bring a piece of Misi home with you. It immediately reminded me of the pasta shops I stumbled into while wandering the streets of Rome.
Guests can choose to dine at the pasta bar or be seated outdoors. We opted for the patio, and I'm grateful we did. Framed by white stone and classic bistro tables, the courtyard feels effortlessly elegant. It's not just a place to eat. It's a place to linger.
The service was equally memorable. The staff was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and genuinely passionate about the menu. I've always believed you can tell a lot about a restaurant by the way its servers talk about the food, and the team at Misi Pasta spoke with the confidence of people who truly believe in what they're serving.
Before ordering, we were given a thorough walkthrough of the menu, which immediately stood out. Misi Pasta does an exceptional job of highlighting individual ingredients while embracing seasonality. In an era when many chefs are celebrating simplicity and restraint, this menu felt like a master class in the concept. Nothing seemed overcomplicated. Every ingredient had a purpose.
And now, onto the food.
It was 2 p.m., and I was nursing a hangover. Frankly, I could not have chosen a better meal.
To Drink
Diet Coke with Lemon
The cure-all.
To Start
Toast & Burrata
So simple. So good.
Misi's sister restaurant is known for its ricotta toast, but this burrata version is a worthy contender. Rich, creamy burrata piled onto perfectly toasted bread and finished with garlic that somehow steals the show.
Zucchini with Italian Vinaigrette
It may have been zucchini season, but this dish felt timeless. The vinaigrette delivers a bright punch of acidity, while the zucchini retains just enough firmness to create texture and structure. If you're someone who loves vinegar, order this immediately.
To Enjoy
Lemon Bottarga Spaghetti with Garlic Breadcrumbs
This was the standout of the meal.
The best way I can describe it is both refreshing and deeply savory. Bright lemon cuts through the richness, garlic breadcrumbs add texture and crunch, and the bottarga brings an incredible depth of flavor and umami.
If cured fish roe sounds intimidating, don't let it stop you. Bottarga contributes complexity more than fishiness, creating a dish that feels layered, balanced, and surprisingly light.
It's the kind of pasta that makes you pause after the first bite.
Misi Pasta's menu proves that restraint can be just as impressive as innovation. Every dish felt intentional, every ingredient had room to shine, and the experience was elevated without ever feeling pretentious.
I'll be thinking about that spaghetti for a long time.
To Finish
Affogato
I have had my fair share of affogatos, but this was easily the best I've ever tasted.
What arrived at the table was almost too beautiful to disturb. The cream had been folded into the most elegant shape, sculpted with such care that it felt unworthy of being enjoyed, yet impossible not to. As the espresso met the cream, it transformed into something silky, rich, and deeply comforting.
It tasted like a dream.
In a meal filled with thoughtfully executed simplicity, it was the perfect ending.
